Having been to two completely different Italian cities so far I was interested to see what the environment in Naples would be. Rome is bustling and congested while Venice is smaller and slower. Arrive in Naples through the train station shows you one thing right upfront, he center city of Naples, or Napoli, is very modern. The station and metro is very streamlined and clean and there are modern buildings and hotels that are scattered throughout the city. This is not to say the Napoli does not have old world charm, it does and it’s beautiful. There are the cobblestone streets, beautiful old buildings , quaint little streets, and Castle in the middle of the city along the coastline.I would say Napoli is a bit of a medium between Rome’s big city vibe and Venice’s small world feel. Its not packed like Rome is but it is a vibrant city with plenty of things going on, lots of people out at night going to bars and restaurants hanging around old fountain and ancient steps.
During the day people sunbathe along the coastline, younger kids jump in and swim in the ocean, and vendors grill food and sell drinks to people walking by. City center of Napoli seems to be a great place to be, it’s young, hip, and laid back. The food is also really good(which it is all over Italy), there are good pizzas and pasta all in small restaurants as there are really no chain restaurants in town. I can also see this as a wonderful place for a couple to visit, there are daily cruises that can be taken along the coastline and while the weather is hot an ocean breeze keeps the worst at bay. The city within itself is lovely, it was a great place to visit and a nice breath of fresh air before making another long journey.
