Before Prague was a bustling city, it was once used as a trading route linking Southern and Northern Europe. This area by the Vltava River contains relics dating back to the Paleolithic period of geologic history. It wasn’t until the 4th-6th centuries AD that we see the rise of the Slavs followed by the appearance of the Avars both of which would be catalysts to the cultural growth of Prague. It wasn’t until the second half of the 9th century that the actual foundations for what would soon become Prague were laid. The individuals credited for the foundation of Prague is given to Princess Libuše and her husband, Přemysl, who established the Přemyslid dynasty (800-1306). It was during this dynasty that the two founders established Prague as not only the nucleus of Bohemian lifestyle but also as a political center for the surrounding areas.Towards the current century Prague grows in size and in importance. Many of the old style buildings that reside in Prague have been preserved and the center of the city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Looking into the city you will find styles dating back to the baroque period. Along with its architectural history, Prague is also known as the musical stage for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Don Giovanni. Prague is a beautiful city containing histories stretching to a thousand years with cultures that are not to far from the present (Kazimour 2015).
