Rome is always talked about as beautiful, historical , and romantic. It has these incredibly old ruins scattered throughout the city and doting the outskirts of it as well. One of the things that aren’t really said said is how much of hustling and bustling city it really is. There are always people headed somewhere, hoards of tourist, men on Vespas heading to business meetings( of which I can only assume from the suits). There are old apartment buildings, subways, and districts within the city that look pulled from, really, any downtown. Coupled with the mid-summer summer heat Rome can be pretty crazy and hard to navigate.
However, even with all of that reality Rome still has cobblestone streets and alleyways that lead to ancient buildings and beautiful Fountains. Most of the landmarks you assume are out in the open, but actually require walking down narrow passages and turning down different streets. None of which is actually to difficult. There are signs everywhere, all the little alleyways have a plethora of different shops and restaurants, all of which have people speaking English, and many locals were will to help two obviously turned around tourists. Rome is an experience and I’m glad I am able to say I’m a part of it. However, I am looking forward to smaller towns and hopefully ocean breezes.
